What causes autism?

Scientists don’t know what causes autism, but it’s likely that both genetics and environment play a role. . Studies of people with autism have found irregularities in several regions of the brain. Other studies suggest that people with autism have abnormal levels of serotonin or other neurotransmitters in the brain. These abnormalities suggest that autism could result from the disruption of normal brain development early in fetal development caused by defects in genes that control brain growth and that regulate how neurons communicate with each other. While these findings are intriguing, they are preliminary and require further study. The theory that parental practices are responsible for autism has now been disproved. Another contributing factor that has yet to be proven or disproven is the vaccines we give our children every day. There are so many ingredients in these that we should not be putting into our bodies, and it’s believed by a lot of people that these ingredients just cannot be metabolized in the body if a child who already has autism present, but unseen. It’s as if autism is a loaded gun, present in the body already and just waiting to go off, but the vaccines pull the trigger. Another possibility that I’ve heard that I cannot discredit is cutting the umbilical cord before it stops pulsating, a common practice in today’s hospitals. While these things have not been proven, I will not disregard them. Until we know exactly what causes it, we can’t say for sure something doesn’t.
